Viljoenhof Residence Indigenous Games

The Indigenous Games were proposed by our ex President Thabo Mbeki and were launched by Minister Ngconde Balfour in 2005. Since then Department of Sport, Arts and Culture are still on the right trek to make the games popular and to promote active and healthy lifestyles. They are fighting unwanted behaviour by engaging youth in these games.
The games that were on the programme were Kgati, Intonga, and Dibeke.

The challenge is to trace and bring this rich indigenous heritage to life for everybody to share and actively join in games like Iintonga, Morabaraba, Jukskei, Dibeke, Ncuva, Khokho, Diketo, Kgati and Drie Stokkies.

Viljoenhof Residence hosted these games on Saturday, May 26, 2012. The main aim is to keep students active and feel at home away from home.

 The Residences that participated was
St. Peters Square
, Catsville Residence, Bellville Campus and including Viljoenhof. I am glad to announce that I was the part of the team that organised the whole games as Viljoenhof RSA.
There were six co-coordinators from Department of Sport Arts and Culture, a Sport Lecturer from Mowbray Campus. Sound System Dj “Oosh” from UNIFM and his assistance. The games were fantastic. Yeeeeeeppeeeeeee……

  1. This is a nice story. I just wish you continued to tell more about what kind of games were played.
